Adoptions
I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry.
"God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly.
"I have done something," He replied. "I created You."

Many of the chinchillas we have rescued have a permanent home here at the rescue due to various reasons; social behavior, age, they stole our hearts (ok, so they all do that). However, we do on occasion adopt out chinchillas to approved applicants. All of the chinchillas have had complete physical exams. We do not adopt out any chinchillas that have a history of or any ongoing medical conditions such a malocclusion, etc.
Our goal is to find wonderful, loving and knowledgeable forever homes for our chinchillas, but we are not desperate to 'get rid of' any chins. Do not contact us if you are looking to get a free or cheap chinchilla. We are looking for people who understand what is involved in having a chinchilla in their life and are happily willing to accommodate the chinchilla's needs.
If you are interested in adopting a chinchilla, please be sure to read the Domestic Habitat, Emotional Health and Diet sections to confirm a chinchilla is the right animal companion for you. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have about the care required by a chinchilla.

Our adoption policy is different than most rescues or shelters. We are a private rescue and therefore are not open to the public. We do not post pictures of chinchillas for adoption. We do not believe in people choosing a chinchilla based on appearance or having people coming to see the chins for a visit and picking a chin based on a brief interaction with them. This is not a good gauge to judge how a permanent relationship would be. Chinchillas usually will not show their true personality until they trust and get comfortable with someone as discussed under Emotional Health.
We know our chinchillas better than anyone. Along with the application, other things we consider are whether he/she will be the only chin living with you or whether you are looking to get a friend for a current chinchilla. We then match the chinchilla that we believe would be the most compatible for both you and the chinchilla. We have conducted all our adoptions this way and have had great success with pairing chinchillas with their new guardians. Photos can always be sent at that point in time.
Since we do not breed chinchillas, we do not have kits for adoption. We have had two litters born here when we rescued their pregnant moms, but we waited until the kits were well over a year old before an adoption took place.
If you are interested in adopting a rescued chinchilla you will need to fill out an adoption application. The application is then reviewed and there will also be an interview by phone. It is at the discretion of the Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue Inc. to approve or reject any applicant that we feel would or would not be the best guardian to one of our chinchillas. The chinchillas are always our first concern.
The adoption fee is $75.00 of which 100% goes back into the rescue towards the care of the chinchillas. Appropriate housing and supplies as discussed under Domestic Habitat are expected to be setup and ready for the adopted chinchilla to move into upon adoption. You may fill out an adoption application by clicking the Apply button below.
You will be sent an email confirming that we have received your application. It can take anywhere from a few days to a week to have an application get final approval. Once someone is approved for adoption, arrangements are made for us to bring the chinchilla to their new forever home. We do not ship chinchillas for reasons explained under Emotional Health. We are always available should any questions or problems arise.
In their innocence and wisdom, in their connection to the earth and its most ancient rhythms, animals show us a way back to a home they have never left.
